Hi,
I'm in the process of preparing my walls for painting. On one section, a candle was dumped all over the wall and chair rail. I have taken a heat gun and paper towels and removed the vast majority of the wax, but there is still a film on the wall. Painting over this will be a big problem. Is there an easy way of either completely removing the wax or can I just use a primer over it? Sanding? If a primer, can I use a latex primer like Bullseye 123 or kilz?
Thanks

The wax really needs to be removed. I would try using a paint thinner or deglosser, there is probably a better cleaner, I just don't what :o Sanding may help. It would probably be a good idea [once it is a clean as you can get it] to prime it with a solvent based primer.

For wax I use drywall remover
:coffee:
...sorry, really if it won't sand/scrape off, I'm kind of at a loss
And I'm afraid the heat gun helped soak it into the sheetrock
I don't know of any problem area primers that will stick to wax
Maybe if you sand/scrape enough off, you might get Zinsser's Gardz or 1-2-3 to stick to it
Or Ben Moore's Fresh Start
Now that I think about it, I'd try that first

I use mineral spirits for wax spills, I'd try wiping a rag with mineral spirits across the stain to see what happens.
