Painting - How to transport and store paintbrushes?

I used to store my paintbrushes by hanging them in my workshop. Now, that I need to take my brushes on the road, I need way to transport and store them. Is laying them flat in a toolbox OK? Should they be wrapped in something for protection?

Guess you didn't keep th cardboard shuck they came in ?
Ah...I always loose them
I'll make my own out of newspaper (there's all ways some of that in the "paint box") when I do
It help because they can always dry hanging after cleaning (like pre-pro)
I'll also keep the brushes, roller cage, and go-to putty knives in the tray liners that are in the roller tray in the top of my "paint box"
That way they are on top and separate

It is always best to store brushes in the shuck/wrapper that they came in. As slickshift said most any paper can be used when the shuck is missing - this really helps them to retain their shape.

I put shelves in my work van - latex brushes on one shelf, oil brushes in another. Doesn't really matter how/where you store them as long as they can lay flat and retain their shape.

I try to keep the original shucks, but they eventually disappear. Hmmmmmm...

They are hanging out with my left socks, the ones that disappear in the dryer, and the pens from my office

I have a hard time locating my missing socks, and paintbrush shucks. But, most missing items, like the TV and DVD remotes, are usually found in my daughter's bedroom.

Y'all need to get your priorities straight when it comes to taking care of your brushes. I seldom ever lose a shuck [but I have had employees that did] Most of mine wind up being held together with masking tape before the brush is ready to become a duster.

All my socks are white so I always having a matching pair - except my wife claims the white sock with the red stripe on the toe doesn't match the one with a blue stripe or no stripe but then thats a whole nother story :D
