I Have Kelvinator 18 cu foot fridge with no icemaker that keeps making a sporadic motor running noise that sounds like an icemaker. This is not the compressor which is nice and quiet but more of a grinding noise that sounds like some gears running. It lasts for about 60 to 120 seconds but is noisy enough to wake me up. NO, I am not sleeping in the kitchen! This fridge is about 4 years old but it has been doing it from day one. I have put up with it for long enough. I recently bought another one for a different location and with out ice maker also. As I put it in I noticed a small panel on the back that appeared to be a place to install or turn on an icemaker if I had one.
If anyone believes it really is the icemaker motor, Can I "turn" mine off? Is this unusual? Did the manufacturer just set it to run assuming that the retailer would be selling it with an icemaker?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Mike
