I have two chairs that I stained then applied a shiny poly. I do not like the look of the poly finish and would like to apply a satin finish instead. Is there anyway to get the shiny finish off without taking off the stain?

I assume you want to change the sheen and not the stain color. The gloss poly can be sanded and then recoated with satin poly.

Thanks. Do you know what grade sand paper I would use?

220 grit will be good
