A while back some great guy emailed, or directed me to, a schemo to repair my dryer. I'm hoping this is a simple fix as well. Kenmore 80 dryer timer-rheostat-potentiometer intermittent. Any help GREATLY apreciated!

Whats the model number? Get it directly from the
model and serial tag. There also may be a 3 digit number followed
by a decimal point. Make sure you include it also.

Ok this is just a standad timer no rheostats or potentiometers.
Let me start off by asking just what is the dryer doing that isnt normal?

Turn it to 60, 45, 30 min, won't start, to 10 it will (most of the time), go around and around about 20 times (used to be 2) it will start on any time. Defininitly not on/off switch. I believe, sooner, probably not later, it won't run at all. What I'm looking for is past experience, especially around getting to the part, and any hints on replacing it. I'm in the Electric guitar and Amp biz, and know that if you've done something 100 times it's much quicker than the first, and there are often time saving manuevers (sp). Thanks much for any help!

Looks like a timer problem.
There is a round cam with notches inside the timer.
This cam operates different sets of leaf type switches.
Chances are that one of these leaf switches is bad and not
making contact for the motor circuit. Especially after you told me that were
able to just spin the knob around a couple of times to get it to start.
Sears shows it as part number 3976576. Thats a Whirlpool part number so
you don't have to necessarily get it from Sears.

GREAT! Thanks. Any "exploded" views/schemo type things out there? Or, is it real "cut and dry" once I have the back off? I have been inside this one before to clear a sock from the filter "box". This is why I'm willing to do it, rather than spend the same amount of time just hangin' around to pay a guy to doa simple R&R!

If you need an electrical schematic there should be one with the dryer.
