I have a amana dryer that is about 4 to 5 years old. It is making an intermitent squeak and only seams to happen when the dryer heats up to temp. 3 to four seconds of squeak then no squeak for a few seconds. I replaced the rear rollers and the teflon guides yesterday. I also checked the idler pully, by taking the belt off and just running the motor, Still squeaks. Pulled out the heating element looks fine. Noise seems to be coming from the motor pully. Any advice? If it is the motor pully do I need to replace the entire motor? Thanks

Didn’t see anything on that particular model so I’ll wing it. The motor pulley is attached solid to the shaft. Make sure its not loose. “If” the noise is coming from the motor itself it’s probably coming from one of the bearings. First make sure that the blower wheel is tight on the motor shaft. If not It could be stripped. When suspected you can always remove it from the shaft and then run the motor. If the noise remains after all this then there really isn’t anything left to check. I would say the motor is the culprit.

I replaced the motor on the dryer and you guessed it still buzzing, ran the dryer with no heat and couldn't get it to make any noise turned the heat on and after a couple of minutes started buzzing. Not a constant but intermitent, every couple of seconds. Only thing not replaced is blower fan and I can't see any broken fins or pieces. Totally puzzled.

Ok let’s back up a bit and confirm description of the noise. Earlier you said you were getting a “squeaking” noise coming from the motor area. Now you’re describing it as a buzzing noise. The two different descriptions can lead me into different directions. If it you are getting a buzzing noise it could be a metal to metal vibration somewhere. Check any metal components attached to each other. While it’s buzzing you could take something non conductive (maybe a wood stick) and put pressure on various areas. If the noise changes or stops then you could very well just have two pieces of metal rubbing together or a loose part. Since you say this changes with heat make sure to check the area where the heater is at for any vibration.

Your right, The noise is more of a buzzing noise, almost like if you had a bunch of change sitting on the dryer in a cup but much much louder. I did check the legs and tried to apply pressure to different areas of the housing while the unit is running to isolate but no luck. I am about to give up and call in the experts, I've replaced 120.00 worth of parts and still no fix. As I said before, the only part left to replace would be the blower fan. I may take the fan off and see if the rattle continues to eliminate the fan as the source after that I give up.
