I am installing a whirlpool tub in place of my old bathtub. I want the shower to stay. My carpenter say's I can't have a shower with a whirlpool and that I need a hand held shower because the original wall shower will damage the wirlpool. I asked him why does water go any where different with a wall shower or a hand held one. All he say's is I won't leave your existing shower in, it has to go. Is this really true that you can't have a wall shower with a whirlpool tub but you can have a hand held shower. I need help with this. Is the contractor right or not thinking right?:weird:

:) I wouldnt get one if I couldnt have a regular shower head. Plus, most of those hand helds and a bar that you can lock it to and have it stay in place like a regular shower. So this would negate being able to not have a standard head (unless he refuses to install that bar and keeps it for himself)
I would call manufacturer. They should be able to tell you.:)

Your carpenter is not a plumber is he? I too would call manufacturer. The plumbing for a whirlpool tub faucet is no different than a regular tub. As a matter of fact the jets pull water in through the pump and push out through the outlet ports. The only concern is to make sure that the tub is caulked properly to keep water from seeping under the tub, not an issue if done the right way.
Cocky pop is what I say - proceed with shower (perm), if the carpenter doesn't like it, hire someone else.

From what I see in your post, you are exactly replacing the existing tub with a similarly sized whirlpool tub. If that is the case, and your controls stay on the front wall, there is no reason for you not to have the shower you desire. If the replacement is exact or similar, then your shower rod or doors should fit also. I do bathroom remodels all the time and what the customer wants, usually I can provide. The last one wanted a rain head from the ceiling and a handheld on the front wall offset to the wall side, controlled by a diverter valve in the control valve. Wierd, but doable. They are very happy with it. It was a custom tile shower unit 6 1/2' long and 4' wide. Here, again, a little large, but doable.

Your carpenter must have some reason he is saying this. Easiest way is to ask him WHY it will ruin the new tub. Then let us know so we are all on the same page. Good luck.

I have thought about doing this many times. Seems like it would be awesome. How did it look??? Was it simple??? Please, if you get a chance, let me know!! :)
