Toilets, Sinks, Showers, Tubs and Disposals - Broken shower pipe

Hi. I was trying to find a leak in my shower recently. I had removed the shower head and trim around the shower pipe to see if I could detect any leaking water from the shower pipe behind the wall. The shower pipe was leaking, so I went to a store and bought a new shower pipe and head. When I tried to remove the leaking shower pipe it broke with about half the threads still in the pipe in the wall. Is there any way to remove the broken end of the shower pipe from the connector in the wall?

Purchase an Easy-out. You can find these at Home Centers or hardware stores. Take the piece that broke off, with you so you know you get the proper size. Most shower arms are 1/2". I prefer the "squirrel tail" type as they are tapered. Tape the easy-out into a socket so it doesn't fall into the wall, and use a ratchet to remove it. Easy-outs grab when turned in the reverse direction (counterclockwise) and grab whats left of the threads. Good luck.

There are shower arm tools which have the easy-out on one end, and on the other end is a tap to chase the threads.
