hey all.
i just got a wall lamp, having recently discovered that the bumpy patch on my wall was really a plaque covering the necessary wiring for a lamp. the lamp itself has a plug, and wiring wouldn't be a problem if i had normal wiring in my walls. the apartment is from the 20's, and im assuming the wires haven't been changed in a good many years. basically, theyre thick wires with a braided cloth insulation [i'm not sure what it's called, but it looks like hair elastic.]

i'm afraid to probe further. i'm sure the wires of my lamp should simply be wrapped around the wires in my wall, but i don't want to try without being sure.

thanks!

It could be K&T or BX.
You will need to install a recepticle there for your lamp.
