Should all kitchen countertop slabs be rodded front and back of sink opening or is it only advised when using 2cm slabs(over 3/4" plywood)?

If not,is there a minimum/maximum width at front and back that should/shouldn't be rodded.

I'm about to start shopping for a countertop and just want to make sure I ask all the right questions.

I think I will likely go with a Stainless Steel sink...is 18 gauge the minimum thickness I should be looking at and should/would most contractors cut their top to suit the sink I supply or do you usually have to choose one of theirs?

Thanks for any help, info or suggestions

The best advice i can give is to talk with an experienced and reputable stone fabricator to get the correct information. If you do not know of one, then try at www.stoneadvice.com This fellow owns a fabrication shop and does beautiful work as you will see from his pictures. He is also on a crusade to eliminate the hacks from his industry so I would trust his advice over someone out of the blue.
