We have a wall in our bathroom ensuite that has been wallpapered in that velvet patterned stuff from the 60's-(I believe). Can I paint right over it, thus giving a textuerd look when dried? I have seen a wall like this before, that is velvet wall paper painted over, and it looked sharp. What should I know prior to attempting this. Is this just a bad idea or can it be done?

Welcome to the forums Denise

Painting over wallpaper is never really a good idea. If it ever comes loose it will be harder to strip with the paint sealing the surface.

If you do decide to paint it, use an oil based primer first. This will both prevent any bleed through with the latex coat and also prevent the water in the latex from trying to soak through and disolve the paper adhesive.
