Hitachi 60SDX88B
I have a Hitachi 60SDX88B and the picture just cuts off but you still have sound. It comes back on "sometimes" after a while of being off. Last night I was in the room when it went off and it's was like one of the old TV?s powering off where it goes down to a small dot. It is an older TV and I do not want to spend a lot on it I have experience replacing parts on amplifiers so any help would be appreciated
Thanks alot

Sound like the fly-back transformer.or possibly the horz. output transistor is ovver-heating and failing. Get a can of componet cooler, RS might still sell it. In the set look for a transister about the size of a nickel, it's usually on a rather large heat sink. When the picture goes out spray the transis, if the picture comes back that's your problem, if not, it's the fly back.
There's enough voltage in that unit to KILL YOU, so if you aren't sure don't do it.
You'll see a wire, usally red, that come out on the top of the picture tube (looks like a suction cup) and connects to the transfomer. You need to short that wire out before you remove the FB
If you don't fix it soon, eventually you'll burn out the center of the screen and when it is repaired there will be a dead spot in the center of the picture.
