I have a kenmore washer thats 6 years old .It starts off fine by filling and washing then towards the end of the washing cycle it will start to make a clicking noise as if it wants to turn off untill it finally does. It also starts to smell like its burning a belt and the motor overheats. I don't understand why it smells like its burning rubber since theres no belts to this washer . We changed the pump thinking this would solve the problem however this didn't do much. Anyone out there with any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you may have a bad timer.. the contacts are getting a poor connection,,, the smell is probably the coating on the motor windings......

so are you saying the timer would cause the motor to overheat and turn off?

I noticed that my washing machine had the same symptoms... clicking noise & smells like burnt rubber but my belt was ok. wouldn't spin out either.

turned out to be 2 things:

pillow case in outside tub drain caused motor to spin slowly

noticed transmission of the washer was rubbing the bottom of the drum on spin out - causing the clicking noise.

hope this helps.
