My daughter just purchased a house with a 4 year old GE Dishwasher - basic model. The mounting brackets on the top of the dishwasher bend like they were rubber. We straighten them, open the dishwasher door and they bend agin allowing the dishwasher to move forward at the top. They appear to be welded to the dishwasher frame and the replacement parts I see on line appear to weld on. Is it possible to replace these using screws to attach them to the dishwasher frame.

sonyasa, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Sounds like a bad install. These brackets are not made to hold weight. Just make it so the unit does not slide around. What you need to do is adjust the legs up a bit. These legs have a threaded rod that can be screwed in or out to adjust the height of the DW. Good luck.

It sounds more like someone has sat or stood on the dishwasher door when it was open, bending the tabs, not unheard of especially if there are children in the house. Now that they are bent, they will continue to bend at that spot until the break off.

One solution is to put some short, flathead screws through the tub material and into the edge of the countertop. Just remember they need to be flat (or the door won't close), and on the edge of the countertop, as that keeps them outside the door seal. The need to be long enough to get a good penetration into the countertop edge, but not so long that they pierce the top of the countertop. Drill pilot holes to keep the countertop edge and dishwasher tub from cracking.

You are right. Now that they have bent, they literally bend just opening and closing the door they are so flimsy. When they bend, the bottom of the dishwasher slides back slightly and the top leans out. I have found some brackets that say they are for use when mounting with granite countertops (or similar). The mount to the sides of the cabinets. If I can screw these into that metal frame on the dishwasher, why can't I screw some new ones onto the top? The ones on it now are worthless.
