Title says it all! Twice in the past 3 weeks the water draining from the upstairs tub ends up overflowing the downstairs toilet bowl. It also pours out of the drain pipes in the basement. Can someone tell me the probable cause of this?

JSchraer, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Since the water is also coming out the basement drain pipes, I have to guess that you have a blockage in the main drain past the basement fixtures. Your situation indicates that the water hits a clog and then fills up the piping to all the other fixtures. Good luck.

JSchraer;

I once had this exact issue and as majakdragon siad chances are you're going to have a blockage somewhere in your drainage system past your fixtures. I rented an electric eel to tackle the problem myself, and it did work however only for a short while. I then had a plumber come in and run his heavy duty electric eel, which had a huge bit with monster teeth on it, through the pipes. At one point the plumber hit something and he said he felt it dislodge. He was kind enough to run the eel down a couple extra times for me and I havnt had a problem since.

Best of luck!
