When I pull the Cycle Control knob out to start washer, all I get is a buzzing sound. I've tried all positions and all that changes is the tone of the buzzing sound. It is a Whirlpool Washer that I purchased new in 1990, model number LA5500T. What could be the problem?

Unless something is locking up the motor ie: the pump or transmission, it sounds like the motor has gone bad. You also might want to check if the capacitor is good.
