Has anyone ever done or seen a firplace refaced? By refacing I mean like you would do cabinet doors and drawers. I have a large brick fireplace in my house and was wondering about this.

Thanks

in my days of being a mason we have done this many of times. actually i did it to my own house a few years back. there are a couple of approaches that come to my mind that i'll share with you. depending on how far your existing firplace pratrudes into your room now you may be able to get away with installing a new vaneer (face) over the existing, which is much cheaper but can be just as beautiful if working with a good craftsman. the other alternative would be to demolish the existing face and construct a new one. which ever one you may decide to do make sure they tie it into the existing masonry. i hope this has been helpful.

Thanks johntro. The existing 0ne is only the width of the brick as to how far it patrudes into the room so refacing over this should not be a problem. Thanks again for your help.
