Hello, My grandpa was asking me about taller toilets for older people so it is easier to get up. I have never really paid any attention to one if i have ever saw one, but he was talking to some of his older friends and one said they have had a lot of trouble with it not flushing. I was wondering how much different are the taller toilets mechanically (if any) that would cause problems of if they just got a bad one. Thanks!!

The only "taller" toilets I know of are the handicapped toilets. They are a couple inches taller so that a person with a disability does not have to bend so much to use it. I have not heard of a problem with any of them. It may simply be an adjustment problem with the flapper. Sometimes the chain is set too slack and it does not raise the flapper up all the way and it closes sooner than it should to complete a proper flush.

yes, the disability ones is what i am talking about, i didn't think they made them any different that would cause them to work poorly. Thanks

If anything, they should flush better because of more head on the flush column. If you look at the AmStd. Champions, the first models were not only hi-bowl, but the tank was mounted on about a 2" upsweep on the bowl. I am sure this height was part of the flush design.

Willyp923,

There are spacers available that will raise his existing toilet.
You should be able to get these at suppliers that sell accessibility products.

Those spacers work quite well; come with long johnny bolts and secures the toilet without any wobble.
