I'm installing DuPont laminate floors, which have an attached underlayment. I am installing over gypcrete on a second floor condo (in extremely dry Colorado) and was wondering if a vapor barrier is necessary? I ask because when I laid down the 6-mil vapor barrier and some laminate flooring on top of that, you can hear some crinkling noises from the plastic vapor barrier. Therefore, is there another material that can be used as a vapor barrier? I can't use a 2-in-1 underlayment because I already have attached underlayment on the laminate. Thanks,

Andy

You must follow manufacturer's recommendations for subfloor moisture test and prep, recommended vapor retarder, acclimation, and installation to maintain warranties. If in doubt, contact manufacturer.

If you did a test run with a few pieces that won't tell you much. If the 6mil poly is placed down with the wrinkles pulled out you ought to be fine when have enough weight down to hold it. I have never had that problem myself. You already know the substrate has to be pretty flat, right?
