The need for a hot water heater has become critical. Our eventual household plans include a 6'x4' whirlpool, so I'm looking at a 75-80 gallon indirect hot water tank. An online friend recommends Crown. My local dealer stocks Amtrol (as does Home Depot, which isn't a good sign to me). Any comments on either? Or other preferences?

Thanks,

I'm no expert but go with what your local plumbing distributor recomends they usually stock and sell an item than gives them the least amount of trouble. In my area of Long Island Blackman plumbing distributors stocks "Superstore Ultra" a friend of mine who is a licensed plumber put a 45 gal one in my sons home and it works fine.

Check the first hour rating to determine the size you need. 75 is a giant indrect. Crowns MegaStor is a good produce. I used to use the Amtrol product but they had problems with coils and thermostats and I changed brands. The crown is a stainless tank with a stainless coil. The Amtrol is a plastic lined steel tank with a copper coil. Water conditions may help you make a decision too.
