I am attempting to fix my bathtub leak without resorting to calling my apartment's maitenance people, because i want to have it done in one day, not within a week, so i can actually use my shower when i want to ^_^ so any tips will be greatly appreciated.

it has been going on for a few months, but neither me or my room mate have gotten around to calling anyone to fix it because we have night jobs and sleep in the day time. the whole thing started with the handle not being able to turn off completely, always gets stuck about half way through the turn. by now, this leak is BIG. its not just "drip drip drip" anymore, its pouring a steady stream at this point. its on the cold water side, the brand of the faucet is "price pfister" and they have got to be at least 5 years old. they look like this:

except mine are older, and have 3 handles, one in the center to turn on the shower.

now, i have tried some steps from other threads, i turned off the water, unscrewed the screw, and turned the handle as far as it could go to pull it off, but it wont pull off... infact, i almost pull the damn pipe out of the wall when i try. is this because of rust? something else? or am i just not doing
this right? any advise is very welcome.

I assume you cannot remove the handle from the stem. The handles pull straight out after the screw is removed. Plumbers use a special tool for this purpose when they are stuck.

It might be best to let the maintenance people take care of this. If you break something, they will probably make you pay for it.

jim is correct, you break, destroy,as well as damage any other units due to you trying to do maintenance on anything in that apartment that doesn't belong to you , you will be held liable.
i know, i am a apartment maintenance area supervisor. if anyone in my company did not respond within 24 hours of a service request they would be fired. from what i see you will not have the materials or the tools to perform the job correctly. what you need to do is call the office and set a time that you will be awake (the reason i said you, is because you, at least want to learn how stuff is done so watch what the maintenance person does, it may help you later in life when you have your own home).
i'm guessing that water is included in the rent. property managers are well aware of the costs associated with any kinds of water leaks, so make it clear to them that it needs to be fixed asap.
by the way, the problem you descibed should not take any decent maintenance person more than 30 mins. to complete if they have a well stocked shop, so you should be able to get that beauty rest sooner. just remember, you do not own that building, you mess anything up in it, you will at the end of it think that you have just bought the thing.
just wondering.... what part of the country do you live? i'm from the south, and i have had a lot of people that come from the north to rent at one complex we have that is close to a tech school, that can't believe the response time that they get, and for some reason they feel that it is common practice to give the maintenance people tips, gifts etc. we don't do that down here, it's our job, the resident pays our salary, just wondering?

yeah, looks like ill have to call maintenance... but most likely they themselfs will call a plumber. this complex has had multipule issues with plumbing, i am lucky to not be one of the people who's water tanks exploded ^_^ i live in washigton state, so yeah pretty much as noth as you can get. i have only had one issue so far, that was fixed in like 5 minutes, but have heard bad stories from other people who have had plumbing issues here, but mostly it was the people who had bad water tanks. im glad to hear this only takes a little while to finish up! thanks both of you for letting me know :-D
