First I want to thank everyone in this forum. What a great wealth of information. I laid my first 150sq. feet of hardwood maple this weekend and it went without a hitch. looks beautiful!

I do have one question. I haven't finished the final row because I need to figure out what to do with the final trim piece.

The room that I finished is adjacent to the livingroom. The livingroom has carpet that was laid over 1/4" plywood subfloor, and then a layer of tile. This causes the height of the carpet to be > the height of the new wood flooring. I've seen carpet reducers, but what do people use if the carpet is higher?

The second question I have is how do you finish off the carpet. The two pieces of carpet (living room and office) were glued together. So when I removed the office carpet, the end adjacent to the office is look (not tacked down). Can I just put a tack strip under it?

Thanks for the wonderful advice EVERYONE!

The carpet being higher works great. Tack strip, trim and tuck into the gully between the tackstrip and hardwood, if you left a clean cut line across the opening.

You can use what is called Z-bar also. It is a turn and tap hidden transition molding.
