Hi, and thanks for the opportunity to ask about this problem.

I just bought a house just south of the Mason-Dixon line and it is my first. The house has a Rheem heat pump system which seems to work fine but for one thing: When shutting down after a period of running, it seems the inside unit has a slow loud sound. Kind of like a pump is pushing against compression and then backing up. Can anyone tell me if this is normal and if not what might the problem(s) be?

Thanks much,

GB

I think what you are hearing is the sound of the refrigerant pressures equalizing & is totally normal.

As I thought, I HOPE!
