My house was built in 1971. It has 1x? (I'm guessing 10) underlayment. The entire house (yes, even the kitchen, but not baths) has carpeting. We would like to install Pergo laminate flooring throughout a large portion of the 1st floor, but have been told (by someone who is not an expert) that we couldn't do it. Is this true? Do we need to put a 1/4" plywood sub down first?
