I am putting locking laminate flooring over a couple layers of vinyl flooring. The old flooring is very tight - down pretty well.
Do I need the foam underlayment? Most directions, those included, and those on DIY sites all say that laminate can be layed 'directly' over these types of floors. And directly, to me, means no underlayment.
Then the illustrations show rolls of foam underlayment...
Anybody done it?
Thanks,

You got to have a padding. Some laminates come with the foam pad already attached, otherwise put down the foam underlayment that comes in rolls.

I guess by directly, they meant you don't have to tear out the old floor.
Thanks.

If the vinyl is in the condition you stated, just leave it down, but you will need a foam padding over top the vinyl.
