I hope I am posting this in the right thread....

When we run our dishwasher, we wash our dishes before we wash our dishes, if you know what I mean. Lately the dishes have been covered in dried food when the cycle is over. Things that weren't even on any dishes are all over our dishes - especially the top rack. We end up washing them by hand again!

As the dishwasher runs, the side of the sink where the garbage disposer is fills up with water and whatever was sitting in the garbage disposer. When this happens, I cut on the disposer and the sink empties. To complicate matters, this happens even when I am sure the garbage disposer is "empty".

Are the two problems related? What can I do about these two issues?

Thanks so much!

I sounds like you have a clogged discharge tube on the disposer. You need to take apart the plumbing from the disposer to the trap and clean it out. One other thing to note. For safety, the diswasher drain hose should be looped up to a air gap mounted on the sink or countertop. The air gap prevents a clogged drain from backing up into the dishwasher. Good Luck.
