Solid Hardwood, Engineered and Laminate Flooring - Laminate install question?

Hi, My husband and I will be installing Laminate flooring in our Kitchen and Dinning room. The two rooms are really one long room. The builders put carpet in the dining room and Lanolium in the kicthen half of the room. My question is do we need to pull up the lanolium before we lay the Laminate floor?

Depends if the vinyl is installed over a ¼" thick plywood underlayment or not.

this was our exact scenario!

for your carpet & vinyl to seem even, they've probably laid an additional 1/4" subfloor under the vinyl, to build it up higher to be even with the carpet & pad. you can either (1) remove the vinyl & the extra subfloor (major pain), or (2) you can leave the vinyl alone (if it's in good shape & securely down) & just put down an additional 1/4" subfloor on the carpeted area, after you pull up the carpet. then just roll out your underlayment & lay your laminate planks. you'll never be able to detect the edge of the vinyl - it's so thin.

remember to undercut your door jambs, and remove your baseboards & replace them when you're done for the best-looking installation!

I just wanted to say thanks for the infomation. There is no subfloor in the kitchen. The builder layed the vinyl on the cement floor and the carpet is higher than the vinyal flooring.

No, you don't need to remove the vinyl, but do cut out any curling vinyl.
