I am almost ready to put down my flooring in two rooms and hallways. After reading up on installation methods and tips, there is only one question I have. This is all new construction in a large addition. Where it meets the wall's I was considering trimming the bottom of the 1/2 sheetrock off the subfloor by 1/2 inch, which most of it is already off the sub floor by at least 1/2 inch. This way I could lay it down close to the wall. ( I would of course trim the flooring where it would go under door casings) I figure the 1/2 width of the sheetrock would be sufficient for expansion around the edges. My 1/2" base molding and door casings would set on it for a finished look. I also am going with the industrial method for floor transitions, meaning the aluminum channel with the colored rubber insert. I have this already in my existing house with great results. Does this method of allowing the 1/2" gap under the sheetrock for expansion appear to be a sound method ?
