We have approx 30 yr old 4x8 wood pylwood paneling with a rather porous finish (not shiny). We were wondering if they could be sprayed (after filling in the grooves) with a knockdown or orange peel finish such as they use on sheetrock? Would appreciate any counsel on this. Sure would like to save the step of putting sheetrock on. Thanks:)

Don't see why not. You'll need as smooth a surface as possible so depending upon how many sheets you have, it may be a big job. You might consider puting 4x8 underlayment over the existing paneling and just fill in the joints, but if you go that route, might as well remove the plywood and go with new drywall.
Assuming a smooth surface, Homax makes a product, and a hopper, for knockdown. They want you to primer before spraying, and after as well. I'm currently waiting for my first primer coat to dry, then I'll spray. Good luck with whatever you decide.
