My Mother-In-Law is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids. She still complains that she cannot understand words on the TV. Is there a system where I could use the audio jacks on the back of the TV and run 1 or 2 satellite speakers near her chair? I would like to find some type of box where I could input the audio and locate it near her chair where she could independently control the volume, left / right balance, and base / treble output. She will not use the ear phones that are part of the existing systems for the hard of hearing? I have also heard about a "Loop System". Can you tell me what this is and whether or not you recommend such a system? Thanks for your advice.

Yes, you can buy a wireless setup. Normally I would discourage wireless, but it may be ok in this case since you are not after high fidelity.
Check out the local electronics stores such as Circuit City and Best Buy. You may have to check several stores as that item isn't a big seller and they may not have stock.

Wireless head phones that plug into the audio jacks in the TV or closed captioning.

A "loop" system uses a special transmiter to transmit to a special receiver on the listener, often used for hard of hearing. In speaking halls an antenna wire is installen in the perimiter of the room. In your home, you probably can use a single point transmitter.

Some of those 900 Mhz wireless speaker systems might do.
