I'm getting ready to run speaker wire down from the attic down into the wall for some satellite speakers.
What do I look for in the attic so I know where to drill? Is it going to be clear where the the gap in the wall is?
I can picture coming back down from the attic to a ceilng full of holes.
Thanks.

Depends on the type of home construction, but generally you can spot the tops of the walls fairly easily. Best thing to do is to look for landmarks down in the room to use for reference, such as light fixtures, outlets in the walls etc. Then when you get upstairs use these as reference points. I recently did some attic work running a cat 5 line for daughters computer which was a lot of fun due to our vaulted ceiling in living room. Also ran some speaker wires while I was there. One thing I did was cut a wire coat hangar apart to give me a nice long stiff wire. Then I carefully poked it up through the ceiling drywall into the attic space near where I wanted to route the wires. When I got up in the attic, just had to find the hangar poking up through the insulation to work from as a landmark. Afterwards just hit the hole with a dab of spackling.
