Due to Rita I am replacing the Ceiling. Put up the Drywall and taped and mudded, all ok so far. Bought a texture gun(Homax) they mentioned priming before texture. Do I need to primer before texturing new drywall?

The only reasons to ever prime before texturing is if either you don't plan to paint the texture or there are stain or adhesion issues.

It almost always makes more sense to texture first and then prime and paint.
