I just installed a tub in a alcove. The tub has the tile lip on 3 sides and I would like to secure it to the studs. What method is recommended for this to be fastened?

You really should refer to the manufacturer's instructions, because methods vary and using the wrong method could be disasterous It depends on the tub style, size, edge configuration, etc..
