I'm not very up on tv options, so need some advice. What are my options for a tv that I can just hang right on the wall. We finished our basement and are planning to have a larger tv hanging right on the wall. We already have the electrical and cable hookups done and we had the contractor put solid wood behind the sheetrock where we intend to hang the tv. Our plan is to get something probably in the 42 to 50 inch range.

It is all in the eye in the beholder as far as the TV goes. If money is not an object I would recommend the Pioneer Plasma. It comes in a 43" and a 50". Also as far as the mounting goes, I would NOT use the bracket that is supplied with the pioneer. In my opinion it is a pain to install and feels flimsy. Sanus Systems makes a good one for 249.99.
If money IS an object I would probably recommend the panasonic 42". mdl# th42px50U. Nice picture and its priced reasonably at 2999.99 at most retailers.
Also, get a nice surge suppresor for the TV. There is one that can mount behind the TV by Belkin for 299.99 that is specially made for plasma and LCD's that are being wall mounted. It mounts to the wall right behind the TV.
Last thing, are you just hooking up straight basic cable? Basic cable will look really bad on a plasma in my opinion. Your better going with digital or HD.

Like Stuntman says, you will not be happy hooking basic cable up to a plasma screen. Its not so hot on LCD either. If you have no intentions of upgrading to digital or HD, consider an EDTV instead of HDTV. They are much cheaper.
You have solid wood behind the sheetrock. What type and how thick? 3/4 inch plywood may be alright. 1/2 inch may be too thin. Furring strips are too thin, too, IMHO.
