Hi. I just bought a mahogany desk and I made some really big scratches in the wood when I moved my computer. Do I need to completely refinish the desk top or is there something I can do to repair this mess? THank you.

Depends on the finish. If it's lacquer, you may be able to recoat it with some lacquer and solve the problem.

If it's a polyurethane, you're in for more trouble.

But before you do anything like those, grab yourself a can of wood paste wax (I'm partial to Minwax Paste Wax). Wax the surface, particularly around the scratch. Follow directions of can, but apply the wax lightly.

Buff clean. Scratch should almost disappear.
