Best Options for Old System & What Is It?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

When we moved into this house 5 years ago, it had a well and water softener system. A few days later, a high pressure leak developed in the piping on the top of one of the units. I'm pretty sure it's a gasket-type problem. I got it turned off, then disconnected the tanks from the plumbing. We got on city water a few months later, and I never got these tanks repaired and re-connected.

I'm wondering the best way to deal with these tanks--sell in the paper, give to Goodwill, put in the landfill???

The system consists of a blue salt storage tank, Aqua Perfect brand tank and timer, and Model FLM-40 Water Right Conditioner with numbers "2/93" and "Ser No 285" on the tag.

Would greatly appreciate ideas about what to do with these, and what sale value they would have. Also, what are they? I'm wondering if they are obsolete or too old to be worth fixing. They are not the one-piece system I see in the stores.

All input greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Gary

There's a good possibility that what you have is a generic softener that has an Aqua Perfect brand label. There isn't much value in used generic water softeners and usually none when they don't work.

If you can post a pic maybe someone can identify it.

If it were me I'd put it to rest at the dump if they'll accept it.

How's that city water ... hard or soft?

The tanks are both fiberglass; I wonder if they can be re-used, even if the heads can't. The heads are all metal and can be left at the scrap yard, I would assume.

The water is not bad at all; I prefer it to my friend's "soft" water.

I'm not sure what use the old fiberglass tanks would be to anyone.

I don't think they are very expensive so there's not a demand for them used.
