I bought a Sony DVD Home Theatre System and while installing the surround sound speakers, I find the wires for the back speakers are a little short. My question is are all speaker wire standard or do I need a special kind? Thanks for your help.

Pookey,

the wires you got with the sony home theater in a box is a standard 16 gauge speaker wire, you can find it just about anywhere. you dont have to go crazy with the type of speaker wire you get for that system.

if you buy "speaker" wire, you pay $$$, if you buy zip cord of the same guage, you pay much less.. stranded copper is pretty much stranded copper, they can call it something else and charge more... :wmann3:

Just go to wally world an buy a package of #16 speaker wire. There is ino reason to buy premium brands, or the brand of your system.

What CS said. You won't hear the difference with your system, so save your $$.

I just bought 100' of accoustic research (name right???) from Best Buy last week. It was much cheaper than the same type of wire from Monster. And it also came with connector pins. Name is what you pay for most the time...if not all the time. 16 gauge is what I bought and would do it all over again if I had too (skipping over Monster).

Monster also has more copper in it, as its about 13 guage.
