Hello & thanks for being here, even if you can't help me :(
Okay I built a headboard for my daughters bed (Full size). I now know that I should have used a different wood :wall: but anyway I used an old hollow core interior door. I cut it to the width of the bed, about 55". I then helped my wife upolster it with foam rubber & material fastened by Staple Gun, worked fine. Now I have attached a piece of 1/2"x 2 1/2"x 55" to top back of headboard. I also attached very strong wire to that piece of strapping along the 55" length, like a picture frame. My question is how to attach it to the wall behind bed. Wall is old lattice & plaster type. I hope I made my question clear & not to long...

Thanks again, Paul

hi
i would get some picture frame faster the type you mount at each end
ans there a metal loop on it
and used some hd screws and mount it to the studs if possible
and hang it
or
attach 1 x 4 at 1 at each end depend how high you want it off the floor and secure it to the back of the door and the other to the bedframe

How about some legs to carry most of the weight?

Find the studs in the wall. Position the legs to correspond to the studs.
Attach 2-3 1x4's to the back of the door-headboard to support the weight.
Drive screws into the 1x4's to secure the assembly to the wall.
Push the bed frame up to the headboard.

Thanks IBM & PGTEK, I like the idea of picture frame fastners & the legs from the floor up to back of headboard. Thanks people, I'll let you know how I make out.

:thinker: What I would do is this. Remove the cleat that you have on the top with the wire on it. I would then add a 45-degree bevel to it and replace it with the sharp edge away from the back of the headboard. I would then creat a "wall board that is slightly shorter in length, but wider with a mating 45-degree bevel. I would then locate the wallboard to the proper height securing it into the studs behind the plaster and lattice. The cleat on the headboard would then fit on top of the walboard holding it snug to the wall. The best bet would be to secure through the headboard into the wallboard. A suggestion might be use a large sheet of 3/4-inch particle board as the wallboard. This could extend below the matress line and allow for fasteners.

Little Dan's alter ego has a good solution. It is a clever way of hanging long heavy objects. Just make sure the opposing pieces are level on the wall and are running square on the headboard. If you find it is a little kiltered, you can adjust it slightly by placing a small piece of wood in the wall piece at the low end.
