I want to try the window treatments where you just somehow drape the material over the rods but have no clue as to how this is done. I intend to use blinds and then this type of curtain. Could someone please advise?

I'm assuming you're talking about scarf swags? If so, expect to spend hours on them :) It doesn't work to just throw them over a rod. Either buy swag holders, which make it a bit easier, or best to pleat it up, where you want it to go over the rod, and if you sew, just sew the pleat together or use a pin to hold it together. The pin will be hidden behind the rod. You'll need to pleat it on an angle to look nice. It's a little hard to explain, but look at this site: CLICK HERE (http://www.alternative-windows.co.uk/scarf-valance.htm) Scroll to the end for a visual.

No, this isn't what I meant. You might call it a scarf. What I've seen is it looks like one long piece of material and its just draped over from one end to the other. It is not lined or anything drapey looking but very simple and springish looking. I already have fancy lined drapes, in fact the box valance is still down in Florida as I did not have room for it in my car, so I just have the lined drapes. I have fancy drapes in my formal living room that were custom made, they had matching in the dining room but those were removed as they do not go with the new style put in there. Moma said it is easy to drape those curtains but nothing is easy for me, I have to have instructions.

What you're decribing is called a scarf swag. The way I told you to do it, is the best and easiest way. It is very hard to just "drape" it over a rod. What you see in magazines and catalogs is done the way I described. They just don't tell you that.

shadeladie is telling you the truth! if you try to take one long length of any fabric and wrap it over a pole, it will usually stretch tight because of it's own weight pulling it down at the sides. you need to use pins & double stick tape & all sorts of hocus pocus to get them to appear as though they're just casually draped over a pole! try it - and then pin, glue, sew & tape it from behind & underneath til you get it how you want it. ;)

Thanks to both of you ladies. I found two long scarf type sheers at a great price when I went back to Lowe's and they had a picture on the package that was just what I was trying to describe. I also understand about the pinning and have also seen ladies on tv using rubber bands and other things that gave an effect without showing. Kudos for being so creative with these draping techniques. This sheer was actually not long enough but since we did not mind shorter length it worked out well. They must have used pins on their picture too because although I got mine to drape similar to theirs, I can see where they might have 'fudged' just a bit. Sure do appreciate your help!
