Good Morning,

New to the forum and starting a new project -- could use some advice please.

We're starting the renovation (maybe resurrection) of a 1940's farmhouse that has stood empty on a northeast slope in the Blue Ridge of NC for appx 5 years. I have to gut the house as a first step to see what I have, begin controlling moisture, and stabilize the house. I will not have power back to the house for some time. Outside of one roof leak where an addition meets the house the structure seems fundamentally dry - but mold/mildew are collecting on surfaces.

I've heard about dessicant sheets that can hold moisture without power, then release it in sunlight.

Does anyone have experience with the products as a practical method and have any recommendations?

Apologies if I missed a previous post on this.

Thanks,
George

I have not heard much about this sheet you're talking about.

Just make sure there is no soruce of water to the home/basement. Just make sure there's plenty of fresh air and sun light if possiable.

calcium chloride will attract and hold moisture.maybe 2 or 3 5 gallon pails with about a gallon or two CC in each. drill a half dozen 3/16" holes along the bottom edge and suspend over another container for water collection. basic overgrown version of a closet dehumidifier.
