My outside carrier units lines were cut open by a stucco contractor. An accuaintance who does ac work reconnected the lines and wiring hooked up his guages and r22 but the compressor wont come on. The thermostat is calling for cooling - contactors ok, new capacitor - he found correct voltages at all pertinant points and disconnceted power at thermostat so logic board could time out.

Could the low pressure switch be the cause. How much freon needs to flow into the system before the switch will release as i assume that with no freon in the system the compressor will not run but will run manually by pressing the contactor in

Thanks in advance

The accuaintance should know how to fix this, and he should of pumped down and charged the system per spec. and the EPA guide line.

Did you check to see if there is a manual reset switch that needs to be pressed?

the cut wiring (assuming the thermostat wires were cut along with the refrigerant lines) could have shorted the 24v transformer and burned it out, have your acquaintance check that out. Sometimes it is easy to overlook the obvious when troubleshooting.

The thermostat transformer is ok and the is no manual reset button. The ac faceplate says that the compresser is internally reset by the logic board. We have decided to have another more experianced tech come out to check the unit out. thank you very much for your tips
