I was wondering if there was a deadbolt out there that came with or had integrated on it some kind of a LED or light that would let you know when its engaged. Its a pretty long way from my living room to my front door and call me lazy but would just like to be able to glance over at the lock and see that it's locked without having to walk all the way over there to see...don't know if there are any out there or i'd be able to rig something up like that...

Too far to see the position of the thumb turn? ;)
Nothing I am aware of off hand. It would have to be an electronic lock of some sort with either a power supply or batteries. Not my specialty, perhaps one of the other mods has an idea, or perhaps the folks in electronic security systems.
Or, install a microswitch under the strike so the bolt depresses it when locked, wired to batteries and a light. Could probably get the parts at Radio Shack for 10 bucks. Probably a manufactured unit like this available in the alarm industry somewhere.
Good luck.

The only time that I've seen this sort of application was much as schiejr describes.
A Lockshop I worked for had a large shed out back where stock was kept. They installed a micro switch into the frame behind the deadbolt plate that would be depressed by the bolt when in the locked position. A light was located in the shop so we would know if the door was locked at day end without having to go out and check it.
It was powered by a 12volt transformer.
