Hi:
Due to DSL, I want to replace Telephone Jack, ... from single Suirface-Modular Jack to 'Two/Dual' Surface - Mount Modular Jack which I purchased from Radio Shack. One jack for telephone and another for DSL.
I connected 'two' green wires to 'G,' 'two' red wires to 'R,' 'two' yellow wires to 'Y,' and 'two' black wires to 'B.' However, there is NO dial tone. This connection was taken place on the existing block.
When I examined the old jack which I put in the early - mid. 90., there are just 'four' wires altogether inside the jack while the brand new jack has 'eight' wires inside the jack. However, there is a good reason for '8' wires because there are 'two' jacks on the new jack. Old one has only 'one' jack, thus '4' wires.
Is it IMPOSSIBLE to alter from 'one surface - mount-Modular Jack' to 'Duial Surface Modular Jack?' Or, did I do wrong during the course of wiring?
Thanks for your help.

If the old jack worked and the new jack doesn't then you goofed something up.
You should have all three green wires together, and all three red wires together. The other wires shouldn't make a difference, but you can go ahead and connect them.

It is possible to switch from a single jack to a double. If I am understanding you correctly, you are trying to wire both jacks for the same line. From your description it sounds like you wired it correctly. No way of knowing for sure without actually looking at it myself.

Hi:
Thanks, both. I trully appreciate your responses on this.
After reading both, above, I examined carefully wiring of old jack.
There is just one-side-wiring,..'4' wires connected only on the left side,
Green & Yellow wires connected to the top, "G"
Red & Black wires connected to the bottom, "R"
There is NO wires connected on the right side, although there are two
wires, yellow and black wires peeking/sticking up, but no wires hooked up.
However, I wired 'two green' on "G" 'two red' wires on "R," 'two yellow' wires on "Y" and 'two black' wires on "B"
In my guess, ... is this causing the problem?
In early-mid. '90 (can't remember exact year), I had NO problem, but this time for some reason, I can not finish a job, then I just hooked back to the old way. Keep the same 'Single jack,' although I still desire to install 'Dual Jack.'

Your wiring should look basically something like that for the first plug on one side. Then all you need is jumpers running to the other side on the matching lugs. Red will go to red, green to green, etc.
If there are multiple lines coming to that jack connect them all in the same fashion and use jumpers over to the other jack.
Hope this helps.

Hi:
Thanks for your quick response. I really appreciate it.
I looked the picture and examined carefully how to get it wired,
... but the problem might be, ... how to find 'jumper?'
Do you think I can get one at Radio Shack, or Home Depot?
Also, I know there is Electric Store at which they selling those things,
then they might be more helpful? Maybe, I show the picture you gave
me here? Because, there is one guy seems pretty knowledgeable and helpful.
I want to get things done before Tuesday, because I am planning to activate/use DSL Monday or Tuesday.

A piece of phone wire a few inches long would do the trick.
You might even have some extra laying around the house. If not, a hardware store would have it. You don't need much.
