What is the best window treatment to use in a kitchen with an Italian/Mediterainian (sp?) theme? Privacy isn't a huge necessity, but maximized light is. Thanks again.

where's the window located in the kitchen? a small one above the sink or a larger one somewhere else? maybe with a door? what are the dimensions? and how deep are they set?

Thank you, you are excellent help. The window is large, square and on a wall with nothing else on it (opposite the sink and cabinets). It is in front of the kitchen table. It is also on the dark side of the house. Thanks again, you're awesome!

Sheers in light, earthy colors - such as creams, golds, sage green, taupes, hung on dark, wrought iron hardware, perhaps with scrolling leaves. Since it's a large window, I'd do floor length panels hung on rings if you want to open and close them. Annette may have better ideas, but thought I'd start you off :)

i agree with the wrought iron rods & rings, and floor length, but i'm not sure sheers are appropriate for a kitchen or for an italian/mediterranean theme. i'd go with a heavier fabric. you might even consider chunkier wooden rods & rings, depending on the cabinetry & table & chairs (which are ____?). it should all coordinate.
another thought would be shutters mounted to look like outdoor shutters. you'd just leave them swung open.
also, what's on the walls? if paint - what color? any texture on the walls?

The walls are a yellow/wheat-ish color called "Sand Dune". The cabinets and furniture are dark wood with a red tone. I love all those sugguestions, particularly the shutters. The only thing is expense, as I am hoping that this window will become a patio door in the spring. I think that I will most likely go with the iron rod and panels in an olive/khaki green. What are the best style of panels to go with? Thanks again.

that sounds good. i would just go with simple straight panels with the ring clips. the fabric should have a really nice texture to them, if they're just solid color. then the rod & rings will be the focus, and the fabric will just be for color. and the whole thing will just frame the window, without obstructing the view at all.
