I have a Culligan N8 conditioner which is 15 years old. It has been trouble free. Lately, for the past 3 months, the salt in the brine tank has not moved. I am saving money on not having to buy replacement salt, but am wondering why the level doesn't drop. Normally I replace a 40 pound bag or two every month. Now I'm not using up any salt at all. The conditioner runs at its normal times and sounds normal. I clean the brine tank annually by draining it and flushing it out. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

A couple of questions.
What kind of salt are you using?
Haven't you noticed a change in the quality of water when you do dishes or shower, for example?
Has your local Culligan man made any suggestions?
My first guess is that your salt is bridging. That means that the salt has solidified near the bottom and formed a bridge preventing the salt from making contact with the water.
Pour some warm water down the middle of the salt and see if it begins to drop. DON'T use a broom handle or somethng to try and 'jackhammer' it. You may damage the brine drum.
