I'm repairing my New Orleans home after Katrina flooding. Plaster/lath had to be removed. Sheetrock will go onto bare wall studs. There was nothing between the laths and the back of the exterior weatherboard. Should I install some sort of moisture barrier to protect the back side of the sheetrock? It would have to be between the sheetrodk and the studs as the weatherboards (cypress lap siding) will not be removed. Is a moisture barrier necessary? If so, what should I use? I know that ideally it should be between the weatherboard and the studs, but can it be between the sheetrock and the studs, i.e., touching the sheetrock? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums

In the south it is common practice to install a plastic vapour barrier on the inside of the exterior walls. Just tack it to the studs and install sheetrock over it. When it comes time to install elec devices just cut out the plastic covering the elec box.
