My plaster and lathe ceilings (1920s) are in too poor condition to patch so I plan on attaching drywall over them. A problem I have had in the past is that the drywall screws snap their heads off in the old hard rafters. I am thinking of using 2" deck screws as they worked fine when using plaster washers in other rooms. Will they set deep enough to hide their heads and will they be strong enough? Hate to use the wrong screw and have problems later.
Thanks Much.

Use 2" drywall screws and a lot of drywall glue. I know the heads will snap off and its hard to find a joist to screw to. The glue is essential.

If I am having trouble with screw heads breaking, I use deckmate screws that are coated. They work pretty well (except on the wallet, so use only as needed!)
