I currently have R-11 insulation in my attic cathedral ceiling between 2X6 rafters (dimentional lumber). There is about 360 square feet. I have seen batt insulation that is 5.5 inches thick with a rating of R-21. Would it make economic sense to remove the current r-11 insulation and replace with the r-21? I would still have .5 inches for ventilation.
Whether I replace or not, I am also planning on stapling a perforated (non-vapor barrier) radiant barrier to the underside of the roof deck and putting a platic vapor barrier over the insulation before putting up the wall board. The attic is finished with heat and AC. See any problems with this? Any recommendations.
Thanks.
