any suggestions on an easier way to undercut the front door threshold, which is metal, than buying a special saw that I'll only need for that one cut. Seems like there must be a cheaper or a different solution. Any ideas?

You don't have to undercut. Got a picture??
What type of flooring is it?

Sorry, dont have a picture but it is med. quality laminate flooring from home depot and have installed one other floor but didnt come across having to deal with a front door. It is a standard front door (36"), foundation is concrete and the threshhold is metal. No undercutting would make my life a lot easier! Thanks in advance

Use an endcap molding across the threshold.
