Installing berber carpet on stairs with side tack strips on each tread. Any thoughts on what I cut the width of the carpet to for the stairs? Do I cut it the exact width of the tread, or do I account for the stretching and cut it shorter (i.e 1/4" less on each side)?
Think I've read every posting on carpet on stairs on this forum, but did not see answer.
Thanks.

Cut it exact, and tuck any stretch(you will get very little on the sides)

Thanks CDW.
If we have a nosing on the treads, I presume I need to staple the carpet to the underside of the nosing before I stretch it to meeting the tack strip on the tread?

Yes, the trick is to not make it look like a drive by shooting! Separate the face yarns so you don't pull one down and look like a hole, when your done.
